"Hotel Fresno" opened it's doors in 1912 as Fresno's finest hotel. The "Hotel Fresno" was nationally famous and part of the circuit traveled by vaudeville performers such as: Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor, Bill Bojangles, Fanny Brice, and Buster Keaton (who performed on the Orpheum Vaudeville Circuit). While traveling for soliciting his vote for presidency, Richard Nixon made a largely covered stop at "Hotel Fresno", even giving a speech in the lobby next to the grand fireplace. It was truly a luxurious hotel for socialites. In the 1970's it was converted into senior citizen housing and then finally closed it's doors in 1983. Today the building sits empty, boarded up, and sadly vandalized. It has been looked at for years as a potential building to renovate in Downtown Fresno.
